Water Heater Advice From a Licensed Plumber

Updated: Jan 24

Choosing the right water heater is important for comfort and efficiency in your home. As a professional plumber (with extensive experience), I am here to guide you through this process.

Understanding the types of water heaters and their differences is key. Traditional tank heaters are common.  They are easier to repair, find parts and don’t require much alterations to replace.  However tankless models offer energy efficiency and endless hot water. Consider your household size and hot water usage when choosing.

Energy efficiency is also a factor. Opting for an Energy Star-rated heater can save you money in the long run. Plus, regular maintenance, such as flushing the tank annually, checking the pressure relief valve, and maintaining a proper functioning pressure regulator will extend your heater's life and efficiency.  Tankless water heaters require annual descaling that can become costly, but if skipped will definitely create problems down the road.  It can be said that if annual maintenance is performed on tankless units they should outlast their conventional counterparts.  Unfortunately most problems with tankless water heaters we see are from deferred maintenance.

At General Plumbing Services, we specialize in personalized solutions. From installation to maintenance, we ensure your water heater meets your needs.
